Howdy!
This page could be the start of a bright new chapter in your
life.
Step forward and you'll find it easy to become a square dancer. You'll have fun, along with physical
exercise, mental exercise, and social exercise. Be ready to meet lots of new and friendly
people. If you are already a dancer, your next step is to FORWARD this page to some
of your non-dancer friends! Add a note about your club!
Dancers unite in clubs, which serve as a hub for lessons & classes, ongoing scheduled dances, and social activities. We'll help you find a club. Clubs offer opportunity for toe-tapping music and soon you will do a "left allemande" with your corner and "dosado" with your partner. You'll catch on quickly to "yellowrock". There are clubs all across the United States and around the world. Dancers gather each June for the National Square Dance Convention. Note that Medical authorities give square dancing a good mark.
"According to the New England Journal of Medicine, dancing lowered the risk of dementia. Based on studies, the Journal rated the results from dancing higher than for those who read, played board games or musical instruments. Square Dancing will add 10 years to your life, a surprising new study shows. Dr. Arron Blackburn states, 'it's clear that square dancing is the perfect exercise. It combines all the positive aspects of intense physical activity with none of the negative elements.' All the quick changes of direction loosen and tone up the muscles."
